SPCA: Helping us to help the animals

Cheeky Monkey Hosting supports the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals by donating 5% of our profits to the SPCA.

The New Zealand SPCA is a voluntary organisation, receiving no state funding. It relies on donations, bequests and its own fund-raising efforts for its income.

There are 54 local SPCA’s throughout New Zealand. The larger SPCA’s have some paid staff, but most rely on unpaid personnel. Each has one or more warranted inspectors, paid or unpaid to investigate complaints of cruelty and to enforce the Animal Welfare Act 1999.

The SPCA’s facilities vary throughout New Zealand from large complexes to a few cages in someone’s backyard. Even where large complexes exist, much reliance is placed on the help of voluntary workers.

Local SPCA’s investigate and deal with complaints of cruelty and neglect to animals. They uphold the laws relating to the treatment of animals and take prosecutions were necessary. They give sanctuary to animals in distress and re-home animals where possible. They also ensure that animals which cannot be kept alive for whatever reason are humanely euthaniased.

Your local SPCA also assists with public education and promotion of responsible pet ownership.
